A story, same as the old story.
Practical breakdown of our cosmic hero’s journey and call to our inner and spiritual dimensions.
The Ordinary World - Begin in the mundane, material world, unaware of your divine nature. This is where you live in ignorance of your true self, operating from ego.
Maybe we find you at home, doom scrolling. Thinking about dinner and what your husband said to you last night. Comfortable enough, yet feeling something missing. But yeah, “it’s all good” as they say.
The Call to Adventure - A spiritual awakening or crisis calls you to look beyond the physical. This could be a life event, a spiritual encounter, or a yearning for something more profound.
Here typically and external event shakes you enough to loosen some of those loosely held pieces together. A new perception in thought has formed and you begin to expand beyond your comfort zone. This can be something that evokes fear, uncertainty, or even excitement.
Refusal of the Call - Initially, you might resist this call due to fear, doubt, or attachment to your current life. This hesitation tests your readiness for transformation. Some call this the “2-day challenge.” Where you innately feel you must accept the invitation but all of our identity fixtures come to lurk amongst the winds of change. Doubts, fears, judgements, mainly what we perceive will come to us via the outer world, press down and attempt to squash the call.
Meeting the Mentor - Encounter someone or something (like scriptures or a modern mystic) that guides you towards understanding spiritual teachings and the path to spiritual awakening.
This stage connects us deeply to our feelings and metaphysical concepts. We begin to accept that somehow we are being guided.
Crossing the Threshold - Decide to follow the path towards spiritual enlightenment, leaving behind old ways of living. This is the commitment to inner change. This truly is where we feel that something awaits us albeit we don’t have any idea how the path will unfold, but trust within our heart that it will. This is a stage of devotion.
Tests, Allies, Enemies - Face challenges that test your faith, love, and understanding. Here, you meet those who aid your spiritual growth and those who challenge it, often within your own mind or through external circumstances. The journey levels up at this stage and learn how to discern through mis-takes. It is likened to a video game where we are mastering certain skills of how to trust and how to deal with all types of beings.
Approach to the Inmost Cave - Confront your deepest fears, your shadow self, which might include facing the ego's death. This is where you truly confront what keeps you from divine love. Feels like the abyss. This stage can get very very dark. We can feel and question all of our deepest beliefs and history. We can loose trust for ourselves as we realize our unawareness in prior actions. One can feel down, dark, depressed, lonely, and temporarily loose all light in our way forward.
The Ordeal - A major transformation where you die to the old self. This could symbolize the crucifixion in spiritual terms, where you surrender utterly to divine will. If you are questioning whether you may be in this stage, you’re not there most likely. This is evident and you understand the true meaning of what it means to reborn. You will forever be changed in this renewal process.
Reward (Seizing the Sword) - Gain insight into your Christed nature, experiencing a form of resurrection or enlightenment, realizing your unity with the divine. This is the light at dawn. You can breath again. You are the warrior and have found your sword. * Be mindful to not get stuck here and become hubristic in your actualizations. We are not done yet.
The Road Back - Return to the ordinary world, now transformed. This is where you integrate your spiritual insights into daily life, living as an awakened being. This can feel foreign as you now are amongst many individuals still in precious steps along the journey even step 1. Our exalted state comes when we allow the process for everyone to occur naturally and don’t interfere forcefully to “wake someone up.”
Resurrection - A final test of your new consciousness, where you demonstrate your transformation through action, love, and service, mirroring Christ's resurrection. This stage is where we understand how we are all connected and show up with love, truth, goodness, and wisdom.
Return with the Elixir - Bring back the gift of your enlightenment to share with others, teaching or simply living in a way that reflects divine love and wisdom, inspiring others towards their own journey. Often that which contributed to breaking you open, you have learned skillful ways for others to navigate it. This is where you bring your alchemical gold back to humanity in state of wisdom and compassionate offering
